Lyman Woodard Organization T-Shirt | Saturday Night Special
As musical director ofMartha Reeves and The Vandellas, organist Lyman Woodard played his part inMotown's huge success in 1960s Detroit. After the label moved to LA in 1972, Woodard stayed behind, with his trio releasing this classic funky Jazz LP on the cultStrata label in 1973 (on equipment borrowed from John Lennon, no less). Legend has it that the unusual art came from Woodard simply emptying his pockets on the bedspread of his hotel room. Kresge Eminent Artist 2016 Award winning Detroit photographer Leni Sinclair rearranged the items, stepped back and took the photo which became the album cover. This is the REAL story!
